Steven Smith - Years of 1976

Steven Ralph Smith, age 62, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on July 22, 2017. Steven was born in Logan, Utah, on March 23, 1955, to Alan Dale Smith and Joyce Bergeson. He grew up on a small Cache Valley farm on the Utah-Idaho border and later, Cornish, UT.

He dedicated two years of his life to the LDS Church as a missionary in the Bolivia La Paz Mission from 1974 to 1976. He served diligently and faithfully in several church callings, including Bishop of the Oak Forest 2nd Ward (Layton, UT), and at the time of his passing, as First Counselor in the Presidency of the Layton Utah North Stake. He graduated from West Side High School (Dayton, ID) in 1973, and went on to receive a BA in Accounting from Utah State University in 1978.

He enjoyed his career, co-establishing Wisan & Smith LLP, in 1985. He helped grow the firm from a two-person operation, to WSRP, one of the top professional accounting firms in Utah. He loved being an auditor and spent the last three years in the role of Managing Partner at that firm.

He married Elaine James on December 14, 1978, in the Ogden Utah Temple. He loved his family very much! Whenever he had the chance to be with them (especially his grandchildren), he found every possible way to be there.

He loved to golf with his sons, and play a rigorous game of H-O-R-S-E in the backyard. He enjoyed the outdoors and went on several backpacking trips in the Wind River Mountain Range. He also loved basketball and held season tickets to the Jazz since 1991, spending many games with his sons, grandchildren, and many date nights with his loving wife.

He is survived by his wife Elaine, siblings: Paul (Addie), Farmington; Terry (Bryan), Richmond; Beverly (Jerry), Burley, ID; sons: Eric (Jenny), Pleasant View; Spencer (Gaby), Syracuse; Ryan (Megan), South Weber; Matt (Brooke), San Tan Valley, AZ; Greg (Amanda), Clinton; and 14 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Alan and Joyce.
