Rodney Chase Allred Jr.

Rodney Chase Allred Jr.  1919 ~ 2004  Rodney Chase Allred Jr. died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at his home.He was born June 5, 1919, in Syracuse, Utah, to Rodney Chase and Hilda Carlson Allred. He grew up in Lehi, surrounded by loving family, working summers on the dry farm. He attended USU for two years, then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Toronto, Canada. Upon returning, he was drafted and served his country in World War II from 1943 to 1946. 

He graduated from BYU, received his Master's Degree from Kansas State University and his Doctorate from The University of Nebraska. He married Virginia Bird in 1947 and, after completing his education, returned to BYU as a professor of Agronomy. Rodney and Virginia raised seven children. They lived for five years in La Paz, Bolivia, two years on sabbatical leave and three years as president of the La Paz mission. In 1986, they served another 18 month mission in Hawaii. In 1990 he lost his sweetheart, Ginger, to cancer. In 1991, he married Millie Ravsten. Together they served a mission in the London Temple.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Millie, his daughters, Linda (Lou) Othote, Patrice (Lew) Swain, Leslie (Jim) Gibbons, Karen (Steve) Culverwell, Jane (Dave) Larson, and his sons, Rodney Chase (Danna) Allred, Steven (Diana) Allred, and Millie's children, Jon Eric (Elaine) Ravsten, Karen (Colton) Baker, Shelley (Lee) Bailey, and Becky (Bill) Heath; 52 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters, Huitau (Arlo) Johnson and Ann (Bernell) Coons.  He loved his heritage. He was full of energy for good things. We, his family, thank him for his constant example and honor him for his lifetime of love, his devotion and his enduring faith.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 13, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., in the Pleasant View 3rd Ward Chapel, 650 East Stadium Ave, Provo. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Thursday evening, from 6-8 p.m., or Friday morning, at the Ward Chapel, one hour prior to services. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills.
